THE OUTDOOR CENTRE GLENLUCE
Clay Pigeon Shooting
On the 30th of December a sporting Christmas Clay Pigeon Shooting competition took place at the Outdoor Centre at Glenluce. Fifty three guns arrived from as far a field as Dumfries and the Stewartry to battle it out for a wide selection of prizes. There was a Forty bird sporting as the main competition and a pool trap which was five single three quartering birds going from left to right. This proved a great success and many used it as a warm up for the main competition. However, there was only one man who managed to shoot all five - Graham Adams.
The main sporting competition was enjoyable as many shooters were re-entering trying to improve their scores (some three times). There were four stands of five pairs. Stand 1 was pair of crossers going in opposite directions together. A lot of people struggled to get on to the second bird quick enough.
Stand 2 consisted of a pair of birds going from either side of the cage into a point in front of the shooter. The first bird, a right to left, was a good bird, but it was the second which proved to catch a lot of people out. It was easily shoot able but it was a slow bird that was dropping and a number of people were shooting above it.
The third stand saw a looper going from left to right and a springing teal.
A good number of shooters managed to clear this stand.
The final stand was a pair together, a midi clay going straight away and a driven bird straight over head. The first bird you had to take quick, so you could get the second.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the layout and commented that they were all killable. The score proved that, with a winning score of 37 out of 40 by Graham Adams The rest of the scores are as follows - 33 Paul Parker, 32 Tommy Galashan, 31 Jimmy Logan & Peter Trotman, 30 Danny Mallalieu, Peter Allison & Paddy Watson, 29 Robert Burrel, 28 Tony Heron, Charlie McCarthy & Dougie Brown, 26 Tom Loch, J. Hannah & Peter Cummings 25 John Peacock, Jamie Loch and Finlay Bell.
Juniors 1st John Howatson 2nd Cory Loch and 3rd Stuart Fitzsimmons.
Thanks to all for making this a successful day, with special thanks to Tony Wallace for giving up his time to run the pool trap.
Next sporting competition is on the 10th of February.
Paul is Top Gun
A good turn out of people came to the monthly clay shoot competition at the Outdoor Centre Glenluce on the 10th of feb,
The weather was good with no rain and wind, and the shooters enjoyed the challenge that faced them.
Stand one consisted of a following pair of crossing birds the first from left to right then from right to left.
No one managed to clear this stand but quite a few managed 9 out of 10. Stand 2 was a a slow dropping clay going over some bushes and a three quartering bird, The dropping clay seemed to catch a lot of guns out. Again this stand proved to be as challangeing as the last stand. Top score on this stand was 9/10 again.
On the third stand a rabbit was going from left to right then way out in front there was a spining teal. These birds were simultaneous and everyone seemed to enjoy the rabbit. On the final stand there was a driven bird and a bird going up a gully at great speed. There was only one man who managed to shoot all 10 - Paul.
On the pool trap there was a shoot off to decide the winner. This was because there was three people who shot 5 out of 5. One of the guys had to leave before the end so this left two people to shoot off - Peter Trotman and Paul Parker. Peter took the stand and shot a respectable 3 out of 5. Paul was next to the stand and the pressure did not get to him as he shot all five so was the eventual winner.
First junior was John Howatson. First overall with 35 out of 40 Paul Parker, second Dougie Brown 33, and Third John Watson 32. Eddie Beck 30 Finlay Bell Peter Allison Tommy Galashan all 29 Robert Burrel 28 C. Mcarthy R Mculloch 27
